'Hope for an S-Shaped Back'

Dear Friends,

I have suffered from scoliosis for many years. Practicing yoga has been key for my personal healing and management of this condition. In my yoga practice I focus on movements that help strengthen muscles and align the body.

I'm always on the lookout for exercises that help reduce the pain and discomfort from this condition. In the health section of this week's New York Times the article Hope for an S-shaped back featured a new exercise regime to help scoliosis suffers. Called the Schroth Method this physiotherapeutic treatment focuses on halting curve progression, reducing pain, and improving posture. These are the same things I have practiced through yoga. Scoliosis treatment is unique to each individual, and it nice to see successful alternatives.
